‘Amongst dust descending, new faces thus appear
War raged and crushed oh so many, many lives
But evil did not prevail and we are back here
Rebuilding, and to better everyone strives

A new time arrived for all
Though darkness is still looming overhead
The future does not allow room to stall
Who kindness show, is with kindness met

Four houses, each hold their own
Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin
Each hold something dear, though not all shown
But now, faces old and new, it’s time to begin…

Step forward and let yourself be known
I will sort you into a house, but you will make it your own.’

Sorting had been short, much shorter than during previous years but what would one expect given the circumstances. The war had not done anyone well. People had died, gotten hurt and the mental effects . People were scared still and Minerva could feel the fear clouding everything. YouKnowWho was dead but there were those who, even in his death, remained loyal to him. Parents were still scared for their children but the battle would not get to Hogwarts again. Minerva would not allow it, she would protect the school until her last breath.

After every student was seated, Minerva stood and lightly tapped her glass. The entire Great Hall went silent and the elder woman smiled at each and every one of them. “Welcome and welcome back at Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizarding!” She started.

“There have been many trials and fought hard to keep our rights to our own. We have lost many, but kept our freedom and with that we may be grateful to those who were not so fortunate to have survived. We mourn and celebrate them for what they did and know that the Ministry will put those responsible away for the rest of their lives. And while the world lies in shambles and we all have scraped our knees, this is your time. Your time to grow and excel.

Now, there have been some changes to Hogwarts and we are still rebuilding some parts of the castle. For your own safety the Muggle Studies classroom has been closed down, as is the seventh floor. Unless you have the intention to get yourself injured, do not go up there. Some classes have been moved, but everyone will receive a new map with their class schedule.

For now; Eat and then rest. Classes will wait until tomorrow.”

She waited until the food had appeared and sat back down. This was going to be one very hard year. One with struggles, changes and hopefully more than enough good news to last them through every single hardship they still had to endure.

As Ginny sat at the Gryffindor table, she looked around at her housemates and couldn't help thinking about how much the faces had changed. Sure, there were changes every year, as older students graduated and new ones joined them, but this year, the changes were drastic and different. So many of the losses weren't just former seventh years on to bigger and better things. In a way, it made her feel both humbled and fortunate that she'd survived through to her own final year, and it looked as though she would actually get the chance to graduate and grow up, where so many had lost that.

Professor McGonagall's words only really drove home these thoughts. Unlike previous years where she might find herself distracted with thoughts of food or bed or classes the next day, Ginny's entire attention was focussed on the announcement, and as McGonagall sat down, the petite redhead brought her hands together in applause, unconcerned with whether she was alone in clapping or joined by the rest of the school.

For all their losses, they had come through, and Hogwarts was still standing. As the food appeared, it became a little easier to put aside the darker thoughts and focus on the good, for there was quite a lot of good to focus on as well. Sitting back for a moment, she just looked around at the feast laid before them and the other students, chattering and serving themselves from the platter. It was so wonderfully normal.

Putting on a little grin, she leaned forward to look down the length of table. "Pass that along when you're done, would you," she requested of a student seated just a few spots down the bench, gesturing towards the serving platter they were currently using. While she waited, Ginny also snagged some of the potatoes in the serving dish in front of her, and then handed those off down along the other way. She was hungry, and the smell of the delicious food was impossible to resist.

Selene watched how the sorting ceremony went, she was slightly surprised that there were new students, considering the events last year. A chill went down her spine, when she thought back to last year. The school was under attack and she fought along the others to defend it. Even when she found out that her father would not approve. She did learn one thing that day... That she shouldn't be so insecure about herself. She proved to be a good witch and that she was capable of standing her ground. Although she still had nightmares about that time. Nightmares she did not tell anyone, not even her mother.

The sound of someone tipping their glass, brought Selene back to the reality. She could not help to notice that her hart was beating like a maniac. With a few deep breaths, she calmed herself and she told herself that the war was over and that there would be nothing to worry about. Her green eyes were focused on professor McGonagall and the words reached Selene's ears.
"Welcome and welcome back at Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizarding!" she started and the openings speech went on. McGonagall started her speech with reminding the people who'm did not survived the war last year. She also talked about that their would be some changes to Hogwarts and that the castle is still being rebuild. Selene nodded, but remain still.

After the speech, dinner arrived at the tables. Selene could not help herself, but she was not hungry. The thought of last year was to hard and it took all her hunger away. Instead she took some pumpkin juice and drank the glass empty. Her eyes slid through the Great Hall, but they did not see. No, the only thing she saw was the fight here in the Great Hall last year.

Slytherin Sixth Year Student

Man it was good to be back at Hogwarts! He did not miss being home for one bit but it wasn’t a thing he would say out loud however. A few things had changed during his year away but not all too much in Slytherin house. You could always trust the house of the snake to slither in between the cracks and come out unharmed.

Not that the teenager had any idea what had happened at Hogwarts during the war. He hadn’t been there after all. But from what he gathered by old McGonagall’ speech, some people had died, other had gotten maimed and some had just plainly disappeared. Personally he thought that Hogwarts had been in dire need of some renovation for years and YouKnowWho and his little followers blowing it to bits wasn’t a bad thing at all.

He scooped some pasta onto his plate and glanced at the students sitting at the Slytherin table. His house wasn’t known to be the most talkative of houses, but he needed to find someone who could give him more details about what had happened during the year hadn’t been at Hogwarts. He spooned the pasta in his mouth and started chewing, whilst still looking at people at his table. Diverting his gaze on another table a sudden thought entered his mind. He needed someone who could always be found amidst trouble.

Where was Potter when you needed him? When you could do without his God complex, you’d trip over him and his bony ass but when you actually had need for him! He was nowhere to be found. Sure, it could be because he was supposed to finish his last year at Hogwarts during the war, but it wouldn’t surprise him in the least if the boy were to come in later again, bleeding over the floor, just like previous years. Only when people didn’t need him anymore…

Peter just couldn’t understand how that bunch of redheads managed to keep interested in his persona. Redheads! Well that was it wasn’t it! He just had to look for one of those Weasleys! They were glued to Potter like a silencing spell to a Fwooper. The teenager sat up a bit more and looked at the Gryffindor table. Sure enough, there she was, the very last of the Weasley brood. He stood, bringing his plate with him and in passing said to Devon: “Safe me desert, would you? I need to talk to someone.”
He didn’t wait for an answer, but walked across the Great Hall and sat down next to the only Weasley girl. He put his plate on the table and ignored annoyed and surprised looks from people in the Great Hall. Only after he had gotten himself a goblet of pumpkin juice he looked at Ginny.

“Just the person I was looking for! –He flashed her a smile and put the goblet back on the table- I was looking for someone who would exactly know what happened last year and then I remembered that you and your brothers are friends with Potter. So you would have been in the battle, with both feet and should in fact be able to tell me what I missed. So please tell me, what happened?”

Ginny was just in the process of adding a few slices of roast beef to her already-full plate (it was all too good too resist!) when she felt the weight on the bench shift as another student sat down beside her. At first she didn't think too much of it, assuming in the back of her mind that it must have been a housemate returning from the washroom or finding another spot to sit after catching up with other friends -- there could be any number of reasons for her fellow Gryffindors to be shifting about now that the Headmistress's speech was done and it was time to eat. Heck, maybe someone just wanted to be closer to the gravy boat.

It was only after she set down the platter of roast beef that Ginny turned to see who it was the had taken up the previously-unoccupied spot. Her look of polite curiosity faded into a frown of confusion and a brow furrow of frustration. Although his question seemed innocent enough, she wasn't exactly about to trust this particular Slytherin, with whom she'd had problems before. No, if he was here and poking his nose into her business, it had to have some nefarious purpose.

"What are you doing?" she hissed with some fire in her tone, keeping her voice down, which forced her to lean in a bit as she cast a furtive look around the hall, noticing how much attention he was drawing. Thankfully she no longer embarrassed easily as she once had, but still, it was enough to cause her cheeks to go a little pink. His question registered, but only made her even more suspicious. "Yes, I was there," she confirmed, seeing no reason to lie about that. "We fought; Harry saved the day; you ran, I assume, with most of your housemates... Now go back to your table."

She spoke quickly, though gritted teeth, hoping it would be enough to get rid of him. She wasn't about to go into details about what it had cost them, all the good people they had lost, including her own brother... No, that wasn't a conversation for the Great Hall, and it certainly wasn't one she was about to have with the likes of Peter, even if she believed his wondering was genuine and not being done with some ulterior motive.
